Girls Wrestling CIF

This year at San Dimas, the girls wrestling team has had an incredibly successful season. In wrestling, there is individual CIF, which wrestlers can only qualify for if they place in league finals. There is also dual CIF, where the team wrestles against another school and if they win, they move up the bracket. The top placers in Masters from Sections of California go to state and compete in Bakersfield. From those girls, the top 8 are then the best in California. This past weekend, girls CIF just ended and our San Dimas females made history.

This season, 10 girls from San Dimas qualified for CIF. As expressed by the team, this season has been the most successful for many. These girls have been pushing themselves extremely hard to get where they are right now, especially after last year, when Covid prevented everyone from participating in any CIF tournaments. With hard work and difficult practices, the team has accomplished so much.

Esperanza Dorantes, one of the two captains of the girls wrestling team, explains that freshman year, she was one match away from making it to state. During her sophomore year she placed 4th in CIF masters and made it to state but did not place. Unfortunately, Dorantes’ Junior year was ruined by Covid but she made up for it during her senior year by winning both CIF Individuals and CIF Masters. When discussing her success and hard work Dorantes states that it hasn’t fully set in yet for her, “I haven’t fully processed it yet but it feels amazing!” Dorantes says.

Junior Odalis Garcia talks about the preparation for the season and elaborates “one of our coaches conditioned us to the breaking point and would help us drill and perfect our moves, so for our tournament we would be prepared for anything that is brought our way.”

Overall, girls wrestling has achieved so much this season. All of their practice and determination have led to great outcomes and the team is looking forward to more success.
