How do you feel about the lack of female representation in the computer science industry?

“It started when I was a kid in junior high around 1983, everyone had to take a computer science course, it was very eye-opening. Girls are not encouraged [in the industry] because of the male dominance that it holds. But “not for women” never stopped me. Soon, I opened up my own business and repair shop for computers but there was still no encouragement for me to fully pursue the computer industry. What helped me a lot with getting back into it is the diversity that we need to open up. Female instructors are important to other girls who need to see that girls can do anything no matter what it is. Also, all underrepresented groups like Latinos and African Americans have to do a part in helping make the field more diverse. I’m only 51 and I started my career at 45, so you do you and don’t let anyone intimidate you.” Computer Science Teacher, Mrs. Leaming
