What was your first job and how did it go?
“My first job was when I was 17 years old at a pizza parlor. I had to help cook, bus tables, serve alcoholic drinks and clean the restrooms during the night shift from 3 pm to 11 pm. I explicitly remember Tom who taught me how to prep the pizza sauce. He had me take a 5 gallon bucket and pour the pizza sauce in. According to Tom, the next step was to give the pizza sauce a good mixing so it wasn’t clumpy. He told me to stick my entire arm into the bucket and mix the pizza sauce. Easy peasy…I was now a pizza sauce mixing pro. Later when the manager came in, I figured I’d show off my newly acquired skill in the hopes that I’d be noticed and maybe given a wage increase. So off I went to mix the pizza sauce in front of the manager. Instantly the manager yelled “what’re you doing??!!”. I told him how Tom had trained me and as he shook his head in disappointment, he said we don’t stick our arms in the pizza sauce…EVER. I’ll forever remember Tom.”
