Prom 2022

Juniors and Seniors take on the prom in one fun-filled and magical night.

May 5, 2022

On Saturday, April 16, 2022, the Prom dance commenced as students flooded the gates of the Green River Golf Club in their best attire as the carnival rides lit up the lots. This year signifies reentry after the chaos of the pandemic, as many students finally regained comfort in the normalcy of the prom dance and got to celebrate alongside peers and teachers. To celebrate this fact, ASB in conjunction with the Prom committee put forth their best and brightest to bring together a prom that commemorated the final closing chapters of high school for many seniors and brought together juniors in a way they have never experienced before.

The juniors on ASB involved in the prom planning process expressed the importance of delivering a dance for the enjoyment of the students as well as the difficulties that come along with intricate event planning. Junior, Isabella Trejos, explains the process of planning prom, “More than anything I think collaboration between everyone is key, I mean there’s so much that we have to account for like setting the date, figuring out the venue, and making sure the rides and games are settled out; it’s all about communicating these details because at times so much can get lost in translation.”

As with any high school dance, the dance floor takes a while to warm up but after a few students take initiative to light up the floor everyone can finally set aside their worries and partake in the fun. Senior, Tiara Hardison, says her favorite part was “when me and G started a dance circle and pulled in some life into the dance floor.”

Prom itself has always been a place where students can step outside of their comfort zone and express themselves with fashion as their medium. Students at SDHS took this as an opportunity to showcase these extravagant dresses, gowns, and suits. Senior, Tallulah Lopez, describes the importance of her dress, “My dress is from Sherri Hill! I wanted to get a dress I would never forget for my senior prom, and my mom and I fell in love with this one the moment we saw it. I loved everything about it, especially when it was tied together with my butterfly ring and sun

glasses – so magical.”

The night was beautifully coordinated to include several fun rides, pool tables, and food that created a lively ambiance for students and supervising SDHS staff to view their peers in a new light. The dance lent itself to a fun-filled event that united people from all across the board to let loose and cherish the classic high school experience.
