The Lady Saints closed out their perfect league record when they beat the Northview Vikings, winning three sets to one on October 13, 2022. It seemed as if the Saints hit their stride in perfect timing as league play is finished and CIF playoffs are just around the corner. The girls earned each and every victory and are looking to continue their success in the playoffs.
Although the Saints have won 10 games in a row, they had to fight through tougher games and practices towards the beginning of the season. The team has only three seniors and four returning varsity players. With a lack of experience, the girls knew they had a tough challenge ahead of them. Senior Franki Coleman said, “being a four-year varsity starter, I knew I had to lead the girls by example and do the best I can to help lead this team.” After winning their first game, sweeping Nogales three to zero, the season started going downhill fast. The Lady Saints then lost nine of their next 11 games coming from tournament and non-league play. Something needed to change, and it needed to happen quickly. Whatever they worked on, it worked because, in a blink of an eye, the Saints won their next seven out of nine games. This put them back on track where they wanted to be, with no intentions of stopping for league play.
Coleman also stated, “this team is my family and I love every single one of these girls. We’re always having so much fun and constantly laughing and this is one of my favorite teams I’ve played on.” Even though high school volleyball can be very stressful, the girls make sure to keep the game fun for themselves and really enjoy every moment. This comes naturally to the Lady Saints and it has propelled them to a very successful season.
With the season closing in on the final games, the Lady Saints never gave up and truly pushed past their limits to discover better versions of themselves. It wasn’t easy at any given moment, but it all paid off when they got to celebrate their undefeated league title.
