The new movie Puss & Boots: The Last Wish was a cinematic masterpiece that has been rated better than even the new movie everyone has been talking about and waiting for named Avatar: Way of the water, which had an overall rating of 4.5. It has a 96% in rotten tomatoes and a 4/5 for parent preview; because of the rude humor, violence, and some unsettling scenes it has been labeled as a pg movie not for children under the age of 7.

Puss & Boots is a character that is first introduced as a background character in Shrek 2 and gained popularity with his arrogant, silly, flirty, and self-obsessed personality which suits him for his career choice as an adventurer; honorable fighter. Two years later, he was spun off the Shrek franchise and was made as a prequel which gained massive acclaim in 2011. It took 12 more years for the production team to come out with the next movie at the end of 2022 that had the box office go through the roof.

A junior at San Dimas High School, Aiden Huggins said, “I loved the first movie, though i didn’t expect much for the second movie of puss and boots but when I went to the theaters to watch it I was overwhelmed with joy when I came out of the theater after watching the it and thought it was a beautiful movie with an amazing meaning”.

The movie started with Puss having a party in a mansion that wasn’t his and fighting off the casa’s owner and letting fireworks off that startle a sleeping giant that then comes and attacks the villagers. Puss & Boots saves the day by defeating the monster and everyone comes to cheer, but he was so concentrated on all the applause he was getting he was struck by a bell. When he has woken up a versatile doctor is there waiting and tells him that he is in his last life, though Puss swats him away saying he would never die since he is a legend. Later that day he was in a bar having a drink when a whistling wolf came and sat next to him telling him that he had come for he is “death”.

For the first time puss is scared and flees the scene leaving his legend behind and goes to a cat home and stays there sleeping and eating everyday leaving everything behind. Although Goldilocks and the 3 bears are after him wanting to recruit for a mission, they find his hiding place but do not see him even though he is right in front of them because he looks nothing the same.

Once they leave he wants what they are looking for which is the map to a wishing star and Puss wishes for his 9 lives back so he can be legendary once again, so he digs up the grave of his clothes and leaves with a dog he called Pero who wants to befriend Puss & Boots. They then go to Jack Horner’s stronghold and Puss attempts to take the map but Kitty Soft Paws is already there and wants it too. They then both flee together after Goldilocks and the 3 bears came and disrupted the scene catching Jack’s attention. Puss, Kitty, and Pero then go to the dark woods and have Pero hold the map since he is the safest option. During the rest of the movie Puss thinks that maybe he still does love Kitty and that Pero isn’t so bad either, but the thought of the wolf coming back for his life again keeps him in fear and still wanting his wish.

Lilah La Scala, a senior at San Dimas High School, has said, “It was a heartwarming story with a good conclusion for our main character, the ending was really sweet how he gave up his 9 lives for 1 life with Kitty and Pero and he learned a lesson and lots of character developments and learned  a lot about being self-less”.

The story ends with Jack going down with the star, Goldi understanding that she had won the “orphan lottery”, and Puss, Kitty, And Pero being together and leaving for Shrek’s home. The movie’s theme was how the lives we live should be used to the fullest and that death is something we should not fear. The animation style was truly amazing and made the movie look like a cinematic masterpiece.
