Long practices. Meticulously planned performances. Cut-throat championship competitions. These are the pieces that make up what it takes to be on the dance team at San Dimas High School. When you think of these girls, you probably picture their perfect dance routines at rallies, where their movements are so coordinated that all you see are a synchronous line of blue and white fast moving flashes. The Saint Scroll is given a peek behind the curtain of the life of a dancer by Sophomore student, Chloe Yen.

Saint Scroll: Who inspired you to start dancing?

Chloe Yen: “I had  been watching this K-pop group Blackpink and they made dancing look fun. My mom put me in a ballet class and I ended up joining a dance team.”

Saint Scroll: What is your favorite thing about dancing?

Chloe Yen: “The experiences of competition and friendships that you make with the girls on the team. Dance is like my safe place.”

Saint Scroll: When was your favorite performance and why?

Chloe Yen: “All of them have been memorable”

Saint Scroll: Who is your favorite people to dance with?

Chloe Yen: “The varsity San Dimas High School dance team”

Saint Scroll: What is something that people may not know about being on the San Dimas Dance Team?

Chloe Yen: “It’s a big commitment because there are practices in the morning at six half of the week. The other half of the week are practices after school. I didn’t expect that.”

Saint Scroll: Do you have any advice for those hoping to start dancing?

“Put in effort and you will get better after your continuous effort.”
