Scream IV Movie Review

The iconic movie franchise, Scream, gains yet another movie to its roster. On March 10, 2023, Scream VI was released and has grossed over $119 million worldwide and has received many positive reviews by critics. The movie’s outstanding cast includes Jenna Ortega as Tara Carpenter, Melissa Barrera as Sam Carpenter, Hayden Panettiere as Kirby Reed, and Courteney Cox as Gale Weathers.

The movie follows sisters Tara and Sam Carpenter as they continue to escape the terrors of their father, the original Ghost face. Sam, Tara, and their two friends Mindy and Chad had just previously survived a Ghostface copy attack in Woodsboro in Scream 5. This causes them to move to New York and go to college in hopes to live a normal life.

However their search for paradise for a new life in New York is threatened when yet another Ghostface copy begins a killing spree. As the killings continue to happen around the sisters, iconic characters Kirby Reed and Gale Weathers return to the franchise to help the young sisters escape Ghostface’s attacks once and for all.

Throughout the movie we see the character development of Sam Carpenter, the eldest sister. Back in Woodsboro she was accused of being the Ghostface killer, and framing someone else for the murders. Sam in this movie still struggles with the accusations of people thinking she is the killer, and because her dad is the original Ghostface she starts to believe that continuing the legacy of Ghostface is her true fate.

The four friends later create a plan to kill Ghostface. While following through with their plan Chad, Kirby, Mindy, and Gale get attacked by Ghostface leaving just Tara and Sam left. As the sisters’ plan to kill Ghostface is falling into place they learn that there isn’t just one, but three different killers. Each one of them being people that the sisters and their friends had been close to.

In the end the sisters succeed in finishing their plan and put an end to each Ghostface, but they are still left wondering about the well being of each or their friends including Kirby and Gale. They later find out that each of their friends survived and only received treatable injuries from the attacks.

Junior, Sadie Baca tells, “The movie was great although I do wish it was more practical because I feel in real life all those people would not have survived with how many times they were stabbed”. Baca continues to say that the movie was still extremely enjoyable and gave a good freight.

With mixed reviews Scream IV was overall a huge success bringing over $135 million into the box office. Scream IV is definitely a film worth watching if you want to watch a movie with a good scare and plot twist.
