Humans of SD – Dr. Hernandez

Hang on for a minute...we're trying to find some more stories you might like.

“My life in Colombia was, of course, my family and my friends. When I graduated [from boarding school in Colombia] I didn’t know what to do, so I went and became a firefighter. It was a great experience because those years it was so difficult to see a woman being a part of a typically male job. We had a lot of problems because we were a group of 20 girls, it was so hard for society to accept us as firefighters. After they saw all our development, our work, it was great! Also, it was great because there I found my husband, he was my lieutenant.”
