On Friday October 13th the San Dimas Saints Football hosted Northview (Covina CA) on their home field for their Senior Night. This Senior Night included the Football, Dance, Cheer, Band and Sports Med program. The Vikings came in and ruined the Saints Senior Night as they would win the game
The Saints were Missing their Starting Quarterback Senior Jacob Gonzalez yet that didn’t seem to slow the Saints down. The Saints opened up the game with a 65 yard passing touchdown from Sophomore Quarterback Brendon Meredith to Junior Julian Vigil which was followed by a missed extra point putting the Saints up 6-0. When asked about not playing his Senior Night Gonzalez said, “It sucked not being able to play on a night that’s supposed to be for me and it was my last guaranteed home game”. He also said “I’m proud of how well we played. He (Meredith) stepped up and led the offense”. The Saints entered the half down 14-6 after the Vikings threw for 2 touchdowns.
The Saints started the second half hot as their defense would stop the Vikings but the Saints offense could not execute. The Saints offense would run 6 plays before having to punt it to the Vikings. The Vikings would score a 47 yard passing touchdown putting them up 20-6. The Vikings defense would shut out the Saints offense as the Saints wouldn’t score again until late in the 4th. The Saints would score off a Caleb Morquecho rushing touchdown and close the game out 26-12 Vikings. This was a heartbreaking loss for the Saints as it was their Senior Night and would jeopardize their playoff chances as they started off league 0-1
Saints defensive linemen coach Anthony “Monster” Ramirez was asked how he felt about the game he said “I feel that we could have and should have beat them,We took away the run game and forced them to pass. If we played them again we’d smash them” he states. Saints Dance member Tehya Elias was asked about her Senior Night and responded “Senior Night was so special and memorable, I’m gonna miss dancing on the sidelines and cheering the team on”. The Saints start off league 0-1 and will now prepare to take on the Diamond Ranch Panthers who are 1-0 in the Valle Vista League.
