Over the Summer of 2023, The Culinary class and team have started making huge renovations. There has been a lot of money put into it from getting more space in their room to smart cookers. It is taking a lot more time than expected and there is a lot of controversy on how long it is taking.
There is a lot going into the room and it is going to help the culinary team and the regular classes. Most of the old equipment was outdated and wasn’t helping the culinary team get to the potential they had. “The new equipment is more of things that they are going to use in the culinary industry,” Mr. Brandler says. With the kids getting access to this type of equipment it will give them a jumpstart to their career because they would already have been working with all of the equipment that is in the industry.
The construction of the room was originally planned for a couple of years ago then they finally had it scheduled for the beginning of the summer to the end it got postponed to end at Thanksgiving and then supposed to end after Christmas break. But when they got back they gave him a final date which should be around the beginning of February. Due to the construction being postponed, they have had to go to the neighboring school Lone Hill Middle School.”Which walking over there takes time,” Brandler said. There are multiple students who have been losing out on some new skills like junior Vaughn Coleman who said “The construction taking so long affects my learning because we have not been in the kitchen full time. I don’t know where everything goes and am confused when he asks me to get stuff because I don’t know where things are. I think if we were in the kitchen my knowledge of what to use would be much better as well.”
With the new construction there will be a lot more people that will be able to learn what people in the culinary industry do on a daily basis. but also with the construction taking up most of the year it is making it hard for kids to excel in their culinary dreams.
