On Thursday February 29, The San Dimas Saints Baseball team Played their Rival Bonita highschool For the Grand Slam. It was a long awaited game because the game was supposed to be played Tuesday February 27. All of the players were looking forward to this game and it was a good game for the Saints to say the least. With defeating the Bearcats 7-0.the saints came out hot and scored 2 in the first then 4 in the 4th then finally 1 in the 7th. Landon White, Jude Favela, and Vaughn Coleman all had a multiple hit game.
Not only were the players ready for the game because it is their league rival but they also know a lot of the kids on the other team so it made them want to beat them more and more. Senior Landon White says “we probably did try harder because we were playing with our friends and also because they are our rivals”. Most everyone on the team would agree that since they have friends on the team it makes them want to win a lot more. Another Senior Ryan Castro also said the same thing “I tried to play even harder than usual because we were playing people we knew and we didn’t want them to think they were better than us”. With everyone saying they had that mindset it made it a dog fight for San Dimas and Bonita.
There have been a lot of good memories while the Saints play Bonita. Most of the seniors have been on varsity for 4 years so they have had a lot of good memories. Castro Says “ My favorite game was when we played them my freshmen year. I didn’t really know too much about the rivalry and the history behind it until after the game. But that is my favorite game because we were down and we came back and I hit a walk off to give us the win.”. Also White says “my favorite memory while playing bonita throughout my years at San Dimas is our comeback victory my sophomore in the last inning”. Both of these players saying this is showing that the tensions to win the Grand Slam Was high. The past 4 years the Saints have taken the grand slam home so it was making the Bearcats want to win it more and more.
The Saints and Bearcats look forward to this game year after year and always look forward to being able to have a good high intensity game. As junior Jayden Medina says “My favorite part was the atmosphere of the game and how the tension was high and we were able to come out on top and show who really was better”. The Saints were excited to win the Grand slam to show who really is the best baseball team in Bonita unified school district.
