On Tuesday April 2nd The San Dimas Saints baseball team took on probably their toughest 4 games of the year, In the Boras classic tournament. The Saints always have trouble in these tournaments because the tournament is all of the best baseball teams in Southern California.
The Saints went 2-2 in this prestigious tournament. They beat Ganesha and Crespi, and unfortunately lost to Maranatha and Jserra. The Saints lost in a heartbreaker against Maranatha the first day. They were fighting back and fourth inning to inning and ended up losing in the eighth inning. The second day the Saints wanted some revenge and they did just that, beating the Ganesha Giants 7-0 with Rocco Regan hitting a grand slam and Jude Favela throwing a no hitter. And the saints took that over into day three beating Crespi 7-1. And unfortunately the Saints took a Loss against Jserra on the fourth day.
Every game in this tournament is good competition and everyone is looking to win to be the best in California. With how prestigious the tournament is it also attracts a lot of scouts which is also making kids want to perform way better. Junior Jayden Claros Says “ The harder competitions are better for everyone, helps you develop your game and see other kids with higher IQ’s and better tools than other kids. Seeing those kids help you put tiny things into your game and can work to get you better later on.”. Everyone could agree they were trying harder than usual and were really trying to win the tournament.
With the competition being so good there was a different atmosphere. It is a fun atmosphere but also at the same time it is serious. Everyone wants to win but also you usually are playing friends you usually don’t play and it gives you that competitive but fun feeling. There were alot of people going to these games whether it was scouts, friends. Coaches, and family. Everyone was excited to be there and wanted to perform to the best of their ability.
The Saints went into the Boras Classic tournament with high hopes but they couldn’t pull off winning the tournament. They took a big learning experience from this tournament and are using it to their advantage to get ready for playoffs, so hopefully they can make a run and carve their name into San Dimas High history!
