Overnight trips are the esteemed field trips that all students look forward to, that give them memories that never fade and friendships that last lifetimes. Everyone should get a chance to go on an overnight school trip at least once in their life, and from April 2nd to April 6th, Students from all of San Dimas’s Choirs got to go on a trip to New York City, where they sang at Carnegie Hall.
The newly combined Choir went with groups from around the US to see Wicked, tour Radio City, explore the Statue of Liberty, and walk around Ellis Island.
“We almost died like three times. Field trips are so amazing, I love field trips so much. I learned how to use the subway, [and] how to break the law by jumping the turnstiles.” Said questionable Senior Steve Moreno.
“The weather was messing with us for a while,” Said Freshman Gail Lee. “It was pouring and so windy, but what mattered was that we were with our friends. I made bonds that I hope to keep for the rest of my life, and will never forget that trip. Even though it was super cold and I wasn’t used to the climate.”
Even then, the Singers still had the time of their lives going through workshops provided by Broadway actors, and professors who taught the kids what performing meant to the rest of the world and what it could mean to them.
Freshman Liliana McKibben recalled that, “It was amazing seeing all the sights in New York, and I loved having the privilege to sing in Carnegie Hall with all the other Choirs that attended. I loved spending time with my friends and the Choir. It was really a trip that I’ll never forget.”
No matter what, it is crucial for young performers to learn and experience older performers in order to be able to grow as people and artists. That’s what truly made this trip so special and we can only hope that everyone will get a chance like this at least once in their lives.
