Björk is a world renowned artist who in 1977 began her music journey that has had a lasting impact on various artists who have all said in past interviews that Björk is their inspiration on how they’ve developed as solo musicians.

First starting music at age 11, Björk recorded her first solo album which was a collection of covers of popular songs from her time. Throughout her teen years, she performed with different short-lived bands, ending up at age 18 with Kukl, a band who used to make punk-rock music in the 80’s. They shortly broke up in 1986 due to different wants and different tastes in music.

As for today, Björk’s music career has never been stronger. With alternative music tastes becoming a trend recently, artists like Björk are starting to resurface. Her acting, DJing, singing and music producing talents are being rediscovered, too. Björk has also won awards for her music and acting. She has numerous awards for the movie her acting is most notable for which was Dancer In The Dark. In total, she has 324 nominations and 143 awards combined for her acting and music.

As stated before, many artists look up to Björk for inspiration. Artists such as Arca, Frank Ocean, Caroline Polachek, M.I.A., Empress Of and so many more. But not only artists look up to her, actors and actresses, too. Actors such as Rachel Sennott, Justice Smith and Brigette Lundy-Paine have all made it apparent that they find skill and talent in Björk and find her inspiring. 

Björk seems to be a big hit at San Dimas High School as well, when Saints were asked their opinions on the artist, they all had very notable things to say. Sophomore Myles Mulder says, “I think the first time I ever heard of Björk was when I was like, 13 or something. I was with my dad in his garage and ‘Blissing Me’ by Björk and Arca came on and I remember being obsessed with the song, then later that week, I went to her page on spotify and just started listening to her from then on.” Sophomore Mia Marquez says, “The first time I listened to her music was kind of a long time ago. I was looking in my dads old photo book and I saw a picture of him and Björk and I asked him who it was and he said it was her and that he had taken that picture with her in 2009. I never even heard of her and he played some of her music and I ended up liking it, I’ve been a fan ever since.”

Björk’s impact on music is huge. Her bold creativity inspires artists and shapes modern music. From electronic, hyperpop, to cool videos, she’s a pioneer. Her legacy keeps influencing the industry, making her forever a true music, producing, fashion and movie icon.
