On May 3rd Mt Sac held their 14th annual Health professions conference that was offered to high school and college students and that San Dimas high school students in the Biomed and sports medicine classes were able to attend as a field trip.
The conference was put on and organized by the Mt sac caduceus club who handed out maps and planners for the day as well as showing everyone where to go and setting up and handing out lunch and breakfast to all the students who attended.
The conference consisted of listening to some keynote speakers talk about their journey in the medical field, their profession and the many challenges they faced that could be ones that people pursuing a career in medicine may face as well.
In addition to the keynote speakers there were also many different sessions students could attend to gain information about many different medical professions from people who are already in that profession or who are studying for it.
Freshmen student Madeline Wei comments that “ The conference was very educational and gave me a lot of information about careers I’m interested in and others that I never knew about”.
Some of the topics students could learn about were physical therapy and sound therapy as well as pediatrics. At another station students were able to practice suturing and learn about military medicine.
Another freshmen student in the Biomed and sports medicine classes Crystal Garcia said “ There were a lot of interesting topics we were able to learn about. One that I went to was about pediatrics”.
Near the end of the trip booths were open to talk to people about different programs, careers, and colleges as well as picking up some free souvenirs being passed out at the different booths.
Overall the conference was very educational and allowed students interested in going into the medical field more information about it as well as encouraging students who don’t know what they want to do yet to consider going into a medical profession.
