Dear reader.
As this chapter of life comes to a close, I can’t help to feel nostalgic of my short but sweet time in Journalism. As a first year Entertainment Editor, journalism has given me many opportunities I am truly grateful for. Mrs. Lehrmann took a chance on me to lead a section of pop-culture-filled madness for which I will forever be grateful. Through multiple pitch meetings, rough draft checks, and updates of the saint scroll bulletin board, I grew to garner the responsibilities of being an effective leader in Journalism. Understanding the ropes of journalism and what it takes to be an effective journalist took time, grace, and passion for the subject. Over the past year, I have gained a greater appreciation for writing. I delved into different writing styles and found my true style. I think vulnerability is essential as a writer. To delve into your true ideals and feelings in your writing creates something special, almost personal. Readers connect with the emotion and passion expressed in your writing. I have been granted the privilege of creating a forum for our staff where entertainment is strewn into various subsections of culture like music, film, and pop drama.
I have truly cherished this past year with the Saint Scroll. I was granted the opportunity to join a group of writers and create a journalism site where we kept up on the daily news on our school campus, community, and entertainment industry. Working with my fellow editors Holly Sambas-Martinez (Campus Life), Kennedy Builick (Sports), Jasmine Bautista (Arts), Ayaina Grana (Community), Leilani Ignacio(Editor-in-Chief), and our amazing Journalism leader Mrs. Lehrmann has been a blessing all in all. It’s always easier to console a teammate when you’re strewn on what to do or how to go about an issue in journalism. They were a firm foundation for me and I hoped to be that way for them as well. Through times of disparity, I knew I could count on them to be at the ready. Mrs. Lehrmann assembled a headstrong group of students to lead her Journalism class while she was out on leave and we hoped to make her proud. Passing the torch down onto the next group of students evokes a bittersweet feeling. Although I’ll miss the bustle of life that journalism entails, I know that it lays in good hands.
