Fall is a season that calls for tradition. Many people have favorite shows to watch, desserts to bake, and activities to do with their families every fall. One of those traditions is often a favorite movie or two, that always comes back into our rotation as the weather gets colder. While there are countless movies that capture the feelings of Halloween and fall (whether literally or in the overall feeling the movie invokes), here are just a few of the movies that Saints mentioned.
- Scream, 1996 Scream is a slasher film that completely changed the game for horror movies when it was first released. The movie centers around a group of high school students who are terrorized by a masked killer known as Ghostface, and it is known for playing on popular horror movie tropes, and it is seen by many as a satire. “It’s my favorite Halloween movie,” said Senior Lauren Castillo.
- The Corpse Bride, 2005 When asked her favorite Halloween/fall movie, this was one of senior Dali Llovido’s first picks!
- The Mask, 1994
- IT, 2017 To many people, a movie simply being scary doesn’t mean it is a Halloween movie. “Does IT count?” asked Senior Helen Hernandez, unsure if the movie would make sense. But everyone has their own idea of a Halloween or fall movie.
- It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown, 1966
This movie is a nostalgic watch for people who grew up on Charlie Brown and Snoopy. During the fall season, it brings back a cozy and autumnal feeling within many viewers.
6. Coraline, 2009
Perhaps the most beloved fall movie on this list, Coraline is a childhood favorite for many people. The movie is about a young girl who discovers a hidden tunnel in her home, and finds an alternate universe in which everyone has buttons for eyes and life is the same, except better…or so it seems.
Overall, fall movies are a great way to get into the autumn spirit. As soon as the weather gets colder, the itch to watch comforting autumn films starts to come back!
