The Neon Foam Dance is one of the first excitedly talked about events on campus, with foam machines, neon lights, glow in the dark bracelets, everyone’s creative outfits, and some type of refreshment truck. This year it was the one with the beloved juices. Some might say that it’s the foam machines that are the star of the show when it comes to the neon foam dance, but really it is the forgetting about any inhibitions and just letting go of worries when it comes to a successful start to the school year.
It really is an amazing way to transition from last year into a year of new success.
Lexington Melching (11) says, “I went with 3 of my friends and they made it fun because they matched my energy, they danced, with me and I loved when Beauty and a Beat played; it’s one of my favorites. I love old Justin Bieber songs. I planned my outfit the night before. I had a lot of trouble with it; I tried on a lot which was kind of ironic since it would all be covered in foam regardless, but it the end it all worked out. People were drowning in the foam pit. I started drowning in there. I walked in and people started pushing me into the foam. It was disgusting but it was still fun so I stayed.”
Ms. Luevand, who was handling the wristbands agreed with the outfit situation. Everyone gets so creative with their outfits, which is an unmistakable part of this event, causing so much appreciation and compliments to be exchanged throughout the night. Regardless, she is familiar with all these elaborate and creative outfits getting absolutely ruined by the end of the night, saying that “You know what, everyone comes here with their cute outfits, but at the end of the night… the foam attacks them all.”
Everyone collectively agrees on how weird the feeling of the foam is. It’s like living on a cloud of one big bubble bath and playing in the snow, except the snowballs are just floating balls of foam.
Sophia Chapman (12) even says “When I leave, I’m going to take a hundred showers and never take a bubble bath in my life ever again, yet something about it is just too much fun to get out of.”
The Neon Foam party is a San Dimas High School event that can be comparable to a child’s birthday party held in a McDonalds. At the moment, it may seem immature and silly, but looking back at it as a memory is only reminiscent of nothing but fun.
This party definitely is no long term planning and fancy event like homecoming or prom but it definitely does make a difference when it comes to setting the right energy for the beginning of the school year.
