San Dimas Saints girls flag football took on the Bonita Bearcats on October 9th, 2024, at 7:15 pm at Bonita High School as they fought for the Smug Crown title. The score resulted in a close game as the Bearcats walked away with the win 19-14.
The competition between both teams was tremendously intense. Everyone came out to play, showing dedication and talent on that field. The first touchdown for the Saints was a 25-yard pass thrown by San Dimas Saint, Junior Audrey Schlim (QB) to Junior Faith Kearns (WR) which set the stage for an outstanding game.
While talking with wide receiver Kearns, she described scoring her first touchdown. “I feel great, I was double teamed, but my quarterback Audrey Schlim threw me a perfect ball, caught that touchdown, stayed humble and didn’t celebrate at all, but I was just happy that I was the first one to ever do that.” said by Kearns.
Kearns kept her composure all game and made many outstanding completions on that field. Not only was she a beast during offense when it came defense time she worked just as hard. Many scats throughout the night and lots of flags being pulled.
It was a tight game as the score stayed close. Parents were out of the chairs, coaches were yelling as well as staying focused, and the crowd went wild. This game is the first ever Girls Flag Football Smug Crown. While talking with the head coach for the Saints Girls Flag Football team she stated, “I believe we could have beat the Bearcats but at the end of the day, we played our hearts out…. Umm we made mistakes, but my team gave it their all…. I believe that was our best game yet but both teams have talent and speed, they won from our mistakes but we’ll get them next time.” said Saints Head Coach Tiki.
Both teams played very well and the competition was there. Very fast girls from both sides of the towns as they faced each other and positive sportsmanship throughout the whole game. Bearcats did take the win home with the first ever Smug Crown and the score being 19 to 14. Saints did indeed come in close as they battled hard to get that win. Bouncing back saints take on Chafey on October 14 2024, for their first senior night ever at home 6:30 pm.
