In the Fall/October of 2024, San Dimas, and surrounding cities, held many Halloween and fall-inspired celebrations to unite the community through festivals, carnivals, and trunk-or-treats. San Dimas had a Halloween Spooktacular at City Hall, Oak Mesa Elementary held their annual trunk-or-treat, Glendora held a Halloween Carnival at Finkbiner Park, and last but not least, Halloween.
San Dimas had its annual Halloween Spooktacular on Oct 19 for the community. There were carnival games, costume contests, trunk or treats, and various food vendors. The event was held from 5:30 to 9:00 pm, accommodating many of the young children’s bedtimes but also late enough for the older children to feel included.
They were not the only ones to have a Halloween event. Oak Mesa Elementary School in La Verne held a trunk or treat event for the local kids. This annual event was held on Oct 25 from 5:30 to 8:00 pm in the parking lot and quad of Oak Mesa Elementary School. The main population at the event were students of the school and parents who accompanied them. This was a PTA event for the school so they could bring the family and the community together.
With that, Glendora followed suit with their Halloween Carnival at Finkbiner Park on Oct 26. This was being held from 5:00 – 8:00 pm, allowing all community members to enjoy the annual Halloween event. This event, unlike the others, did cost some money to get into the event, though all of the money acquired went straight to the City of Glendora. There were people of all ages at the event, though there were mainly young children. Senior Melanie Larrimore was at the event and told us “I mean there are a lot of kids here but despite that, it’s still fun. I like seeing the kids in costumes and I’m kinda just here to wear my costume.”
Halloween in San Dimas and the surrounding cities was a huge event, as it is every year. This past Halloween, the most popular area was Downtown San Dimas. Hundreds of people of all ages came out and dressed up to celebrate the unique holiday. On that day, costumes ranged from cute to funny to scary, while everyone had a common goal: to get candy.
All of these events had roughly the same carnival games and food but it had the same effect. This allowed for the community to all come together and all ages to spend time together to have fun. This seemed to help the younger children make friends and have bonding time. This allowed the parents to have some form of relief from the kids. This also helped the elderly people to sit and talk with everyone so they could properly socialize.
