This year marks an exciting milestone as we introduce the first-ever girls golf team at San Dimas High school. Boys golf has represented the school for many years and now with girls playing golf the program will expand tremendously.
Starting off this year with a tie in league with South Hills High school. With Girls golf they had won 4 matches and had 1 loss. Sharing first place for league champions is something to put in the history books for the first ever year of girls golf. Sophia Ingrin, and Jocelyn River, take the best scores to lead the team to victory. Following along with the other teammates Grace Toppen, Katelyn Boese, Lexington Melching, Mya Castenda, and Breonna Bentivegna. They help the team carry a good score to bring in the wins at the end of the matches. Playing South Hills for the first time at there country club was a different adjustment for the girls. That is the only loss they had all season.
We talked to some players on the team and they mentioned that putting in multiple days of hard work is what led to becoming league champions. Jocelyn River mentions, ” Practicing everyday with each other is what makes our team so great and come together”. Coach Jason is an amazing coach and is what influenced these girls to work hard and win. He had been through so many obstacles with trying to get a girls team to start up. After multiple meetings Jason Clark finally had been able to get approval from the school to make a team. Following up to the end of the season Sophia, Jocelyn, Mya, Katelyn, and Breonna made it to individual finals.
They all did an amazing job with 3 of them taking spots for CIF. Moving forward into CIF to represent San Dimas high school will be Sophia Ingrin, Jocleyn River, and Mya Castenda. From the start of this season to the end these girls had the best scores to kick off this first year of girls golf. San Dimas High school is so beyond proud of these girls for taking on something that has never been done here before. Congratulations to all of them on what they have accomplished and to everyone who has helped along the way.
