Saint Scroll: How many years have you been on the SD Dance Team?
Chloe Yen: I’ve been on the dance team for 4 years now.
Saint Scroll: How many years have you been dancing in total?
Chloe Yen: I’ve been dancing since 4th grade.
Saint Scroll: What inspired you to start?
Chloe Yen: I first started off as a cheerleader in Pre K for funsies and loved being on stage so I tried out for dance and loved it.
Saint Scroll: What has been the most challenging part of your dance journey so far?
Chloe Yen: The mentality of thinking I’m not good enough constantly was challenging, but I learned to overcome that.
Saint Scroll: Who are your biggest dance inspirations and why?
Chloe Yen: I have a lot, but my top inspiration is Hyunjin from a Kpop group called Stray kids because he has such a powerful stage presence and dances very powerfully, but also clean at the same time, which I really admire in a dancer.
Saint Scroll: Have you ever had any setbacks or injuries in dance, if so how did you overcome them?
Chloe Yen: During my freshman year, I sprained my ankle the week of solo competition, I rested as much as I could, and hoped I was going to be okay, and I ended up getting 1st place! So it was definitely worth the struggle and stress, (I guess my pain on my face helped with facials for a depressing number).
Saint Scroll: As a captain, what do you think makes your team stand out from others?
Chloe Yen: We stand out from other teams because we take care of each other, and its like a big family. I also love how we can balance goofing around and being focused.
Saint Scroll: What are some goals you have for your team and how do u plan to achieve them?
Chloe Yen: My main goal I have for my team is team bonding and I plan to achieve that by setting aside some time for team activities so we can have fun as a whole team and grow even closer. Another goal is to work hard to win a national title at West Coast Elite Dance Nationals this year. We just need to remember to commit to the bit and practice hard.
