From 2021 to 2024 San Dimas High School Lady Saints Basketball have been 3-peat league champs and are looking forward to adding another year on the banner.
On November 18th at 5 pm, Lady Saints won their first pre-season game against Grand Terrace Coltons which took place at Upland High School. The final score was 50-14. Robene Mercado (9) was the top scorer with 14 points followed by Anelly Alba (12) with 11 points. Both athletes are new editions to Lady Saints Basketball and their hard work is already paying off.
Robene Mercado, being the only freshman on varsity, claims to feel indifferent about being the only freshman, but she is worried for future seasons once the seniors graduate. She is looking forward to all the team bonding moments her and her teammates will share, especially at their Palm Springs tournament during Christmas Break. When asked what motivates her to play, Mercado says,” I just want to be good.” The future of Lady Saints Basketball is looking bright because of the positive energy Mercado brings to the team.
Anelly Alba, Northview transfer tri-athlete, starts off her new season playing alongside some of her closest friends and is excited to be part of a new family. Because it is Alba’s senior year, she explains how “games feel more important than ever”. Alba’s passion for the game shows every time she steps onto the court. She takes in every moment as if it could be her last, acknowledging her gratitude to God for the path He has led her through. As a senior she feels it is important to set a good example for underclassmen. When asked about her goals for this upcoming season, Alba says,” I want to end the season by making it to CIF as league champs, earning Defensive MVP, and hopefully scoring 1,000 points”.
This upcoming season is not one you would want to miss out on. Lady Saints Basketball is determined to win League Champions for the 4th year in a row and to finish off this season strongly. There is so much more to this team than San Dimas High School knows. Get excited for winter season Saints!
