San Dimas High School hired a new assistant principal, Mr. Ravelo, at the beginning of the new school year. Our previous assistant principal, Mr. Heng, left to become the Principal of Gladstone Elementary, allowing Mr. Ravelo to step in. He started this position on the first of July, allowing him to adjust to the new school and staff before the new school year began.
He was born and raised in East Los Angeles with a large family, the seventh child out of ten. He is a first-generation American due to his parents being immigrants from Mexico and he is proud of his Mexican heritage. Ever since Ravelo was in the fourth grade he had always known that he wanted to be a teacher and that his calling was to help people. With that, he graduated from College with his bachelor’s degree in sociology and then went on to get his master’s in education at Cal State LA.
He has many hopes and plans for San Dimas High School. When speaking about the students, Ravelo said, “I treat them like my nephews and nieces. ” He also expressed that he was going to be at San Dimas, “for the long haul. ” He wants to stay and help the students, and he wants everyone to know that if they need support, he’s “here to help”.
Prior to becoming admin Ravelo had taught all grade levels and all types of students. When he had originally started, he was working with the special needs classes in elementary school. He then went with the flow, as he likes to say, and got the opportunity to become an administrator at a middle school. Which led him to where he is now as our new Assistant Principal.
Though they may come across as intimidating at times, it’s important to remember admin are more approachable than we think. Ravelo’s main concern is the wellbeing of the students. He is here to help guide and support students on their educational journey. He is proud of where he comes from, happy and willing to talk to any and all students, and most of all, cares and wants the best for San Dimas High School. Welcome to the Saint’s family Mr. Ravelo.
