On December 4th, 2024 San Dimas wrestling had a duel against Bonita. The Girls went first and one with a score of 48-30 in a duel that every match was decided by pins. Unfortunately the boys couldn’t produce the same result as they lost 29-49.
Girls wrestling went first and they slid by in a aggressive battle as every result ended in a pin in which was a viscous victory for San Dimas. This win makes its 4 in a row for the SD girls showing their toughness for an entire class. The girls in the 11 matches they did actually wrestle SD out pinned them 6-5. Junior Lei’ani jaime got the pin party started for San Dimas getting the first pin on the Bonita. The girls dug themselves a hole but they put down the shovel with 3 straight pins from Junior Alyssa Franco, Freshman Violette Santillian, and Junior Karina Camera. SD was up 30 to 18 at this point and finished strong with 2 pins from Junior April Mendez, and Senior Charlene Smith to secure the 48-30 win.
The boys went after trying to defend the trophy. Senior Captain Fabio Lara going into his last railroad tie For Fabio composure is key and he has been here before. “This is my fourth one (Bonita duels) I was on varsity all 4 years I haven’t won” Senior Lara got his first win against Bonita by pin in the first round. Unfortunately the rest of the team didn’t follow suit even with key pins from Senior Ethan Rodriguez, Junior Daniel Baeza, and Sophmore Micheal Baeza. The Baeza brother had a tribute for their dad after their pin saying in sign language “Happy Birthday Dad” wholesome moment from the brothers. The result was 29-49 in favor of Bonita in a hard fought match losing the rivalry. SD split the trophies and look to improve as the year goes on. The girls making a statement win showing that they haven’t missed a step. The boys still have a lot of talent but need to fix some little things to get over the edge
