Sabrina Carpenter Ends the U.S. Leg of the Short n’Sweet Tour on Monday, November 18th, selling out both the Kia Forum in Inglewood and the Crypto.com arena in Los Angeles. These last shows in LA marked the end of her first-ever arena tour which was completely sold out. The tour will resume in Europe in March of 2025.
Sabrina Carpenter started her career starring on the hit Disney show Girl Meets World. After the show, she signed with Disney-owned company Hollywood Records with whom she made multiple albums. Albums created under this record label included; “Can’t Blame a Girl for Trying” in 2014, followed by four studio albums: Eyes Wide Open (2015), Evolution (2016), Singular: Act I (2018), and Singular: Act II (2019). The albums contained the singles “Alien”, “Almost Love”, and “Sue Me”, which topped the Billboard Dance Club Songs chart. But in 2021 she moved to Island Records where her career took off.
Her first single with Island Records entitled “Skin” became her first entry to the Billboard Hot 100. After this song’s popularity, she released her fifth album Emails I Can’t Send (2022), and soon after released “Espresso” and “Please Please Please” which were singles on her next album, Short n’Sweet (2024).
Short n’Sweet is by far the most popular of these albums. The album’s popularity is partially credited to the success that her singles had, and also due to her involvement with Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour. Carpenter served as an opener and used this to propel her own level of success.
Sabrina Carpenter ended the United States leg of the tour in Los Angeles, her hometown. She closed the last show in the Kia Forum on November 18th of 2024 after performing three other shows that same weekend. Carpenter’s set list included: the entirety of the Short n’Sweet album, seven fan favorites from Emails I Can’t Send, and the surprise song “Super Freak” by Rick James. At each concert, Carpenter spun a bottle to decide her surprise song for that night. Some were repeated, some only played once, and some she simply decided on which she wanted to sing. On November 18th, “Super Freak” was debuted as a surprise song. That however was not the only thing that debuted at the November 18th show…
Before Carpenter took the stage on the last night of the tour, “A Nonsense Christmas with Sabrina Carpenter,” was revealed on the screen. The fans went wild as the video played, revealing that Carpenter would host a Christmas special on Netflix. (Also published on the Saint Scroll with this issue is a review of this very film, go check it out!!). Also debuted was a new bodysuit for the first portion of her setlist. Sabrina comes out in a rhinestoned towel wrapped around said bodysuit. When the towel opens, she reveals the color of her bodysuit for the night, along with sometimes a message on the inside of the towel (if the audience is lucky). LA Night 3 did receive a message on her towel that said “Coming Soon,” and her bodysuit was revealed to be hot pink, which was the first time that color had been seen on the tour. Again, the crowd erupted as they started to speculate what this message meant. Carpenter began her setlist,
enthralling fans with her amazing vocals and backup dancers. During one song called, “Juno,” Carpenter strikes a different pose during a specific part of the song; the closing night of the tour received a never-seen-before pose, which caused a huge reaction from fans – which was expected since this is the most viral moment of her tour.
Tess McDonald, a junior at San Dimas High School attended the Short n’Sweet tour on this closing night. Tess attended the concert with one of her close friends and fellow Captain here on the Dance Team at SDHS, Farrah Carrey (me), and was happy to be interviewed by the Saint Scroll about her experience at the concert. Tess was, “seated on the floor, in section H, only three rows away from the pit,” which was, “an amazing experience.” Tess explained that “My favorite song on the album is Juno or Bed Chem,” but her “favorite song to hear live was “Espresso because of how different it was to the studio version or Good Graces because of the brilliant choreography.” However, Tess told the SaintScroll that all of the songs had “amazing choreography, which I really appreciated as a dancer myself” and all of the outfits were “beautiful.” Tess had a “great time and would totally go again!!”
