On January 23rd Saints wrestling appreciates 6 seniors as they go into their last home duel against Alta Loma. Of the 6 seniors 2 are captains.. They finish the last duel with the score of 45-33. key win from Senior Fabio Lara and Sophomore Micheal Baeza to give the team a chance at the end. The seniors showed out tonight with 4 of 6 seniors winning their match.
The 6 seniors were honored before the duel. The 6 were Jacob Hidalgo, Able Baeza, Ben Cordero, Liam Robles, Fabio Lara, and Ethan Rodriguez. Ethan Rodriguez is a captain who has been with the team for all 4 years “its been a grind but overall I liked it. It was a happy experience all the way through” Senior Fabio Lara said who is also a senior captain that has participated for all 4 years.
They both leaving an impact on the underclassmen but those underclassmen also leaving an impact on them. Lara says he’s going to miss his wrestling partners Sophomore Angel Castaneda and Sophmore Micheal Baeza. Rodriguez says its the juniors who he is going to miss the most. Both captains ended on a high note with Ethan Rodriguez winning by decision, and Fabio Lara winning by pin.
San Dimas started off the evening with a loss by pin. brought back with the Rodriguez win. Followed by another loss this time by major decision. Then it was pulled back in by 3 person winning streak 1 by a Ben Cordero decision, 1 by Kamari Baldelomar pin and 1 by forfeit due to the player not wanting to wrestle Daniel Baeza. after that San Dimas goes on a 4 man losing streak 2 pins, a tech pin, and a decision. Fabio Lara and Micheal Baeza tied it up with back to back pins but unfortunately they came up short due to a forfeit and the final pin.
Even with their contributions it ended in a tough loss which leads to San Dimas being second in league but a well fought match that was close all the way to the end. Senior Fabio Lara and Ethan Rodriguez both agreed that their team is a really good group. San Dimas had a forfeit that was crucial to the outcome. This was an unfortunate loss and the wrestlers will now look to compete individually for CIF.
