The annual Winter Rally on January 24th was a magical experience, as ASB organized it with a Harry Potter theme. The event featured impressive performances and exciting games, keeping everyone entertained throughout the day. From dance routines to 3-pointer shootouts, the rally brought all the classes together to celebrate winter sports, like Girls’ Water Polo, Girls’ and Boys’ Basketball, Soccer, and Wrestling, as they prepare to take on league and CIF.
The theme was thoughtfully planned by ASB, bringing creativity and school spirit. First-year students were assigned to Slytherin with their green class color, while sophomores were Gryffindor, which was red. Juniors represented Hufflepuff with yellow, and seniors took on Ravenclaw in blue. The gym felt as magical as it would be in Hogwarts, decorated with artistic posters, glowing lights, and brick walls.
As part of the Harry Potter-themed rally, the winter sports captains were split into two teams for some fun competition. The game was called “Dizzy Wizards,” a relay race where the captains had to spin 5 times before running to the end of the gym with the brooms in between their legs, and once they ran down and back, they’d pass the broom to their teammates to go next. Following the relay, the captains faced off in a 3-pointer shootout contest, where every member of the team got the chance to attempt to make a basket behind the 3-point line, and the first team to three shots would win. Girls Basketball and Girls Waterpolo ended up winning.
The rally got even better with exciting performances from the dance and cheer teams. The dance team made a fun Harry Potter-themed routine, remixing different songs, while the cheer team showed off stunts, flips, and cheers that excited everyone. Both performances were entertaining and made the rally more enjoyable to watch. Cheerleader Sabrina Phan mentions her favorite part about the rally, sharing her favorite moment. Before preparing to perform, she enjoyed watching all the different activities. “I enjoyed watching the broom game because it was funny watching people tripping and stumbling all over the place, which made the rally more entertaining.”
Although everything was executed perfectly, many rough moments existed before the event. Freshman Vice President Christian Narciso recalls, “We had to find some last-minute participants for some of the games. While I was directing the different classes in the gym, I was grateful to have found a couple of people who were willing to participate.” Despite these challenges, ASB was able to pull off the rally almost exactly as they wanted.
