As we all know a soccer game starts with 22 players on the field but… this was not the case on that night of January 3rd which was a fun night but did not end up like it was supposed to be.
Only half of the San Dimas boys’ soccer team members showed up due to miscommunication and sickness. still, they figured it out and made it work by moving one of the goals to the half of the field since there were not enough players to play full field. The first 10 minutes were only warm-ups because the lights were not on.
After fixing all the mistakes and having the lights on, the referee blew the whistle indicating the start of the game which turned into a 9v9 game. A few minutes into the game, the senior Lorenzo Zapata opened the scoring putting the new generation on top. “It was a fun game and I was happy that we won,” said Senior Zapata.
“It was cool playing against some of the good players that were CIF champions.” Said Senior Jayden Villegas also captain of the San Dimas boys’ soccer team who also had a great night defending the goal with passion like if it was his own life against the alumni.
Goal after goal the score ended up being 6-4 letting the old generation down. It is also important to mention that the referee was the current coach of the San Dimas boys’ soccer team, making bad referee calls and acting blind when the alumni pushed or kicked the new generation.
The last play of the game was supposed to be a fault in favor of the new generation but as mentioned before the referee was on the alumni side. Referee Erik Levay said when the players asked them Why did you call that? “He threw himself on the ground”. That was the end of the game after kicking the ball far away.
