Tate McRae, one of the youngest pop stars and figures in Gen Z music, recently released her new album, “So Close to What.” This album features several songs, including “Revolving Door” and “Miss Possessive.” It was officially released on February 21st, 2025. Since then, she has already received numerous accolades and achieved significant milestones. Some include having the number one album on the Billboard charts and being featured on “The Tonight Show” with Jimmy Fallon. As her concerts continue to sell out, she is adding more dates, all of which are currently sold out. Despite attempts by some to leak her album, she successfully released it and achieved impressive sales. Here are some opinions from SDHS students about the album.

Freshman Aditi Stowitts shared her thoughts on the album. She stated, “All the tracks on the album were very good,” and added, “I found them enjoyable.” Overall, she thought the album was impressive and enjoyed listening to it. Her favorite tracks were “Purple Lace Bra” and “Miss Possessive.” She liked these songs the most because she enjoyed their rhythm and the overall quality of the music when listening to them. She also added that some of the songs will definitely be in her playlist to listen to later.
Senior Ireland Ries shared her thoughts on the new album, stating, “I really like it. I feel like it’s very different from her previous one.” She also noted, “She’s addressing topics that she wouldn’t have discussed before.” Ireland expressed that this album carries a much deeper meaning than any of her past works. She mentioned some of her favorite songs from the album, including “Purple Lace Bra” and “Revolving Door.” Additionally, she shared that she plans to attend Tate’s concert during her tour.

Some more information is that she has several different versions of each song from her album. Additionally, since the album was leaked before its official release, there are about two songs that she decided not to include in the final track list. Her music video has also sparked a viral trend on TikTok, with many fans and creators recreating and participating in the trend.
Freshman Sophia Huezo shared her opinion about the new album. She said, “It was good but not great; I personally didn’t like it too much.” However, she mentioned, “I would listen to a few songs on the album.” While she liked some tracks, she didn’t enjoy others. She also noted that it wasn’t typically what she would listen to, but overall, the album was okay.
Tate McRae’s album has been very successful, winning multiple awards. Many SDHS students thought highly of the album. She is becoming a prominent pop star and will continue to climb the charts higher each day.
