February 29th at the girls wrestling State Championship is where history was coaching history. Coach Daishea Jaime, the first lady wrestler in San Dimas history to ever make the finals at State championships had the amazing opportunity to coach Charlene Smith in the finals. The proud moments that were shared will be unforgettable for both ladies. Being unstoppable, showing off the hard work, giving it her all on that mat is what she did and right there is where it counted the most. Ending with the score of 8-6, Charlene took 2nd place overall in the California state finals.
Daishea Jaime, grew up wrestling, and ended up taking 2nd place in the California State finals during her high school wrestling career. With all of her hard work and dedication towards this sport, she ended up going to Oklahoma City University with a scholarship. Jaime’s wrestling career was very successful, and now she has the opportunity to come back to San Dimas to coach with her father, Jesse Jaime, for the Lady Saint Wrestling program. Doing so, it allowed her to evolve herself more into this sport, and teach these young athletes what it takes to reach the top. Words from Jaime “I’ve bled, shed tears, and cut so much weight to get where I was. I got scholarships to attend Oklahoma City University – where they were notoriously known for winning National Titles on their Women’s Wrestling Team. I said I’d never go back, but the wrestler in you never dies.” Enjoying her time here, she is excited and ready for next season to see which girl is up next in line!

Charlene Smith working harder than ever, and her relentless dedication definitely paid off her senior year when she got second place overall at the California State Championship. Every day she pushed herself beyond her limits, fueled with the support of her coaches and teammates she was able to reach her peak. “I’m very proud of how far I went and grew stronger throughout my 4 years.” This achievement is just the beginning of Charlene’s journey, being unstoppable only the best is yet to come.
These two amazing athletes are able to share such an amazing success and such a great bond no others can relate to. It is a great thing to achieve greatness but even more powerful when you can share your journey with someone else on another level. Coach Daishea says “Coaching Charlene in the finals was bittersweet, I was able to reflect in the sense that – I too – had been robbed of my match. It crushed me; it crushed me for her too.” With the same mindset and feelings to add on, Charlene Smith said “In the State Finals I wish I got out of my head at the end but having Coach Daishea in my corner is the best thing ever and I will miss her being my coach.” Now ending this chapter in both of their lives, it is fantastic to see history coaching history. Now let’s see who is next.
