“It’s absolutely incredible!”

Cole Dixon expressed, after the first away game for basketball against Santa Fe on February 8th, round one of CIF. While it was cold outside, the gym and everyone in it kept warm during the two and a half hours of running up and down the court.

Just as the game begins, the crowds immediately gets excited and each team was hoping for the best. First quarter opens with the Saints putting up two points. Though the Saints held a steady two point lead through half of the first, Santa Fe was able to come back and lead 11-10 by the end of the quarter.

Cole mentioned, “I think it’s just got to happen for us”, hoping to go all the way, the Saints work to trail-blaze back to the top. At the beginning of the second quarter, the Saints trying to continue with a win as in their previous game against Rowland. Again staying on the heels of the Chiefs 25-23 at the end of the half, the Saints were putting in the work. 

After halftime the Saints were in the zone, able to tie with the Chiefs 37-37. During the third and fourth quarters, it was a toss for the lead, both teams going back and forth until they tied again at 47-47.

The game still was not over, for the Saints were able to bring the game into overtime hoping to wear out their opponents. Yet, the Chiefs held their ground and took the game into double overtime at 55-55! 

However mighty Santa Fe may have seemed, they were no match for the victorious Saints. Who after 2 hours on the court were capable of winning round one of CIF with a score of 63-57. From the screaming fans to the extreme leave of energy that filled the building, the Saints pulled it off again. Heading to the second round of CIF.
