During this year’s Women’s History Month, we all have time to reflect on all the accomplished women that have made history from several years ago. In March we acknowledge all the hard work and sacrifices women in the past have made that have impacted the future for the better. Women have overcome several battles by fighting for their independence, their own rights, and equality for all. These courageous women were able to pave the way for young girls of today and set an example to show all that other young women can achieve as well. With the examples and role models of the past, young women today aspire to do the same.

It’s important that we as a society continue to build up the young minds of the future especially encouraging young girls to be empowered young women. Jazmine Cardenas (12) plans to pursue a career in law and policy. She explains ” I want to advocate for the underrepresented and contribute to making the world more just and full of opportunity”. Jazmine is a first-generation student and plans to further her education at Colombia University. Hard working young women like Jazmine continue to overcome challenges with grace and perseverance. When asked how she will accomplish her goals and what she hopes to achieve, Jazmine states, “Corruption occurs all around the world and through my work with policy and law, I hope to help some of the most vulnerable and create some sort of positive impact for future generations.” Truly such an inspiring and compassionate young woman that is on the road to success!

Another young woman that is on the road to success is Oviya Piratheepan (12), a future genetic counselor. Oviya is already thinking about the future and the difference she can make. She explains, ” I want to reassure people with chronic illnesses the “power” they have in the parenting experience”. Oviya wants to be able to assist parents so that they don’t question the quality of life they bring their child into. She is a very self-motivated young woman that aspires to live a successful and financially profitable life. She explains how her sister inspires her everyday, but personally feels as though she should not rely on outside motivators to generate her own happiness.

Although seniors are graduating and moving onto college, it is also important we reflect on the next generations of young women. Maile Carranza (10) aspires to pursue a career in education. She explains how she grew up in a family of educators and she hopes to shape students the same way her family has in the past. Her mom is a woman that motivates her because, ” She is very passionate about teaching and I’ve seen how her engagement with her students benefits them inside and outside of the classroom”. Maile is a compassionate and hard working student athlete that will continue to chase after her dreams. Her family is what motivates her to become a better student and person. Maile aspires to be a good teacher that will “inspire students and create a positive learning environment that encourages a love for learning. Maile is part of San Dimas Science Olympiad team and this year placed 4th in Regionals and advanced to State Competition. Maile is already a passionate life-long learner that will have a positive impact on future minds.
Young women continue to chase after their dreams and become hard working women because of the examples they’ve had in their own life. Women’s History Month is a time to reflect and express gratitude to all the women who have helped encourage and build up young women. Women are strong and passionate people that deserve every ounce of recognition they receive and more because a good work ethic begins from a young age. Young women like Jazmine, Oviyah, and Maile are the future generations of women that will continue to inspire and encourage others around them while also fulfilling their life-long goals.
