As May rolls around the corner, many seniors in the class of 2025 are committing to their respective colleges and slowly making plans to live in the dorms for the next few years of their lives. For most, it’ll be the first time spending a week, let alone years, away from their parents, and it’s time to see how students who are moving are feeling about this significant change. Student Jordan Garcia, is attending La Verne University and had this to say when asked how he feels about moving out, It’s a tough change to move out, and he says he is ready to take on these challenges so more power to him!
Moving out can cause a large turmoil of emotions, ranging from anxiety to a feeling of relief. These newfound freedoms come with highs and lows, like holding yourself accountable for your work, going to school, getting food, and everything in between. Abel is attending University of Riverside and addition to moving a distance away, he is moving out with the skills of independence already established. This will only help with creating a “creative calendar” and allowing him to move through this though process with a good crutch.
With parents not being around, students will have to learn how to be responsible adults because things could get hasty without being told no. On a positive note, newly found freedom can lead to adventures and self-growth like Jonathan Elyas whos attending University of Riverside, Not having Jonathan’s parents looking over him, texting him, or worrying about him being home early or late must bring a feeling of relief along with every other student in the same boat. They can now experience the world how they want it and not have to be on someone else’s clock
Overall, students will find their way through college, discovering what works and what doesn’t. It will be a new experience for everyone moving out and going to college in general. Move-in day will be a heartwarming time when parents have to say goodbye to their kids for the next few years, and kids not having their parents by their side. This marks a significant change in all their lives
