San Dimas Saints Boys Volleyball team, coached by Mr. Joe Hanson, has had an amazing season in the spring of 2025. Their season began in November and has not ended! Both Varsity and JV have practiced hard, played in tournaments, and won countless matches. Now the Varisty team will head onto State!
Their season started with tryouts on Tuesday November 19th which resulted in many boys making the Varsity and Junior Varsity team. The captains were selected soon after tryouts, they are Jacob Pardus and Marlon Quintana. These two boys are juniors that have been on the team for 3 years each.
Their first game of the season was at home where they played Los Osos. Varsity won the match with a reverse sweep as they beat Los Osos 3 to 2. After that, they played Chaparral at home. This game was another reverse sweep for our Saints and their win boosted their rank in the State by around 50 places. They then played both Pasadena, Rio Hondo Prep, and Western Christian. Unfortunately, these three games resulted in a loss for our boys.
At the Great Oak Tournament, boys volleyball placed 3rd which “gave me a lot of hope for the rest of the season” said Captain Jacob Pardus. The following weekend the boys got 1st place at the WEBB Tournament, “I was super proud of our team” told Captain Marlon Quintana. The WEBB Tournamnet was a great morale boost for the team as they would soon continue to play games that would determine whether they make State or not.
Two Athletes of the Week were also elected from Boys Volleyball throughout the season. Emiliano Hernandez and Jacob Pardus which was “such an honor” said Jacob. Being selected as Athlete of the Week at SDHS is a huge deal especially to have multiple from the same sport!
For league, the boys played Colony and ended up winning 3-1. It was the first league win and they continued that streak. After Colony, they beat Covina, Los Altos, West Covina twice. Their last league game is April 22nd, which they won! They will now move onto State and honor SDHS as they progress!!
Their senior night was April 14th where Abel Hagos and Nano Hernandez were honored. They have each been on the team for 3 years and Jacob Pardus described that the night was “bittersweet”. The team was extremely happy that they won the senior night game as they wanted their seniors to be able to end their last season on a good note. Senior night was also staff appreciation night where each boy selected a teacher or staff member to honor at the game.
Overall, boys volleyball has had an amazing season so far. They’ve worked so hard to win league and now the Saint Scroll would like to wish them luck as they head onto State! Go saints!!
