The Menendez Brothers are given the chance of having retrials on April 17th, and 18th of 2025. With the difficulties for these brothers, they were given another delay for their motions hearing. With the amount of legal battles and delays with their resentencing, they have another motions hearing scheduled for May 9th. Many possibilities may come out from this, whether it be good for the Menendez brothers, or not so good for them.
Erik and Lyle are widely known for the accusations of murdering their parents, Jose Menendez and Kitty Menendez in 1989. Their case captured national attention due to the brothers background, and the events leading up to the murders. The defense argued that the brothers were sexually, emotionally, and physically abused for most of their childhood. Due to their experienced abused, the two boys had enough which is what drove them to murder their own parents. Continued on, they were convicted first – degree murderers and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
With the amount of opinions now circulating around the internet, the public may believe they deserve to stay there in prison. On the other hand, some of the public believe the brothers deserve to gain back their freedom due to the time spent in prison.
Hearing from Ellie Trujillo, her opinion was “I don’t think any crime is worth having an entire lifetime in jail if it was done when they were young, basically kids. I believe everyone deserves to get re-looked.” While there are two view points on their story, only the public can do so much. It will be up to the judge on whether to move forward or keep them locked up.
In the 35 years of Lyle and Erik being locked up in jail, they have changed themselves throughout time. They both stay out of trouble and put their efforts in prison jobs and classes. Both brothers are working to build themselves up while they lend a hand and guide people who have experienced childhood abuse and sexual abuse.
With their hearing scheduled for May 9th, 2025, whether they become free men or not, their story still remains talked about and still so many mysteries are held within the Menendez brothers and within the walls of their home.
