The Saints had their Senior Night this Wednesday, May 7, against Colony High School. Ten seniors on the team got to celebrate their last home game as Saints. The Saints had a ceremony before the game to celebrate it and had their families together to cherish this moment. This game was also crucial in the CIF rankings because whoever won would get 2nd in the Hacienda League and a better seeding in the CIF playoffs. As players were cherishing the moment, all of them had to focus up and get ready for the game immediately after.
Coming into this Game, San Dimas needed a win, as the season series was tied with Colony 1-1, and the winner would take a better seed in the CIF playoffs. But the celebration for that game was about the 10 seniors on the team and celebrating what could be their last home game as Saints and their last season as Saints. All 10 seniors have different plans for high school, as some are going to division 1 baseball programs and some are going to other colleges to pursue their dream as a baseball player or to pursue getting a degree in college and having a successful job. For example, Senior Ashton Romero is going to Cal Poly Pomona on Scholarship to play baseball for their university. But all the players have 1 thing in common, and it’s to go bring a championship back to San Dimas for the first time since 2009.
To start the game, Sophomore James Rocha took the mound looking to get a win for the Saints and bring momentum for the Saints leading into the Postseason. James Rocha would finish the game with 6 innings pitched, 8 strikeouts, and 3 earned runs. Senior Joseph Layva would come in to relief and pitch the last inning of the game. Seniors Ashton Romero and Jayden Medina would both bring in a run for the Saints, as that is all the runs the Saints get as they lose 4-2 to Colony. Although the loss, the Saints got to spend what could be their last home game together and look forward to possibly 1 last run together as a team to bring home the title.
San Dimas ends their regular season in 3rd place in the Hacienda League, qualifying for the CIF playoffs. In the Division 3 playoffs, they would face Calabasas High School. As the Underdog, the Saints look to shock everyone and move on and start momentum for them leading into the playoffs, which would be a rematch at Colony High School in the Second Round of the playoffs on May 20th.
