The Environmental Awareness club is a growing club at San Dimas High School. It may have started out quite small, but it is growing with the beautiful direction of the president, Aria DeLeon (11) and the Vice President, Nikki Mattson (9). Encouraging sustainability through encouraging recycling as much as possible, fun crafts that make use of natural resources, and acknowledging that fixing climate issues also takes admitting that living in general contributes to climate harm are included in the work that this club has done.
There is not any way to live 100% sustainability, but that is the reason more effort has to be put into it. The earth is shared by many different living beings, and that diversity must be maintained.
The trip to the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium took place on the 23rd of May, as an end of the year celebration of the beauty of the ocean and the earth. It can be hard to protect something, even the environment which is the reason for life, if the beauty of it is not acknowledged first. Trips to locations like aquariums or natural parks are a good way of being reminded of the beauty of earth’s nature. With these reminders, more motivation to protect the environment can be fostered. It was a great start to welcoming the summer.
This is a public aquarium in the San Pedro neighborhood of LA. Whether interested in science or not, the aquarium interpreting both physical processes of oceanography and marine biology is a big interest factor. It is a way to be a scuba diver without actually being one.
Before going to the aquarium, they went to the Bolsa Chica Conservancy Interpretative Center, located in Huntington Beach. It is a nature reserve and also provides entertainment
Established in 1990 by a coalition of government, community, business and environmental leaders, the Bolsa Chica Conservancy, a private, not-for-profit organization, provides services that inspire and connect all generations through community involvement and leadership in hands-on restoration and education in wetland science, watersheds, coastal ecology and environmental sustainability.
The first thing done was exploring the beautiful sea specimens showcased by the Bolsa Chica Conservancy Interpretative Center. It was a beautiful way of seeing the different creatures that exist on earth, yet may not be able to continue living unless protected.
Aria Deleon says, “It honestly is okay that this is starting out as a small club, hence a small trip, because I am passionate enough about all these that I feel happy to be one of the first ones.”
