One’s senior year of high school is generally the best time of their education and social life. Now that the new school year has begun, San Dimas High has a whole new class of seniors, and many of these new seniors have dreams and expectations for the year ahead. There are numerous events in and outside of school, major opportunities for their future, as well as hellos, goodbyes, and exciting events. So, what do the students want most out of this year?
Through many interviews with the seniors, the overwhelmingly popular sentiment that echoed through the senior class is having fun, primarily. Most are excited for concerts, driving, parties, going off campus, and for some people, such as Senior Derek Galeazzi, they seek a different type of fun. Galeazzi said, “I am looking forward to being 18 so I can legally gamble”.
Whereas if you speak to most athletes, they’re mostly looking forward to their seasons. Basketball player and senior Angelo Fares is most looking forward to, “finishing out the basketball season, and hopefully helping our team win CIF this year.” Fellow athlete Cade Bradley echoes the same sentiment in saying that he is looking forward to his senior soccer season. Most athletes go into their senior year season with hopes of finishing out strong and leaving nothing on the table by the end of the year.
Homecoming, Prom, Grad-Nite, and the Smudge Pot are just some of the experiences that this new senior class is most excited for, and for good reason. With this being their last year to enjoy these rights of passage, and the only year to attend some of these events, it adds to the anticipation and excitement. Mike Parada stated, “I can’t wait to do senior assassin, I’ve been waiting to do it since freshman year, and now I finally can.” These in-school events are a great way not only to show school spirit, but they are also something that I’m sure all seniors look forward to every year.
A common ambition that the seniors share is leaving high school and starting a new chapter. Whether it’s going into college, the workforce, or taking time to travel, most are excited for the new phase of their life after high school.
Although this is the last year for seniors, and it is bittersweet, it is still the best year without a shadow of a doubt. I’m sure that since these students stepped foot onto campus for the first time, they have dreamed of being upperclassmen. They all, at the very least, want to have a senior year full of memories, good times, and most of all a year that they will cherish for the rest of their lives.
