
On September 12 2025, the Saints Took on their cross town rivals Bonita. This year will be the 53rd year since the rivalry had started, the current score is Bonita winning 27 games, and San Dimas winning only 24 of those games and 1 game was a tie. This years game took place at Mt. San Antonio College and the stands where filled with people wanting to see who would come out with the win. At the end of the game the final score came out to 28-14 with Bonita winning their annual rivalry game taking home the Smudge pot.
The game started at 7:00pm starting off with the Bonita starting off with the ball but got stuffed and neither teams scored until the Second quarter when Junior Captain Liam Loyola got a 36 yard interception getting the touchdown now putting the Saints up 7-0 in the second quarter. Bonita then responded back to the interception by scoring back to back on their next 2 drives putting the score 7-14. Bonita had drove the ball down the field and got it to the 3rd yard line rushing it down the middle for a touchdown made by Vasquez. Their defense forces the Saints to punt the ball, Bonita received the ball back and drove it back down field when Maddox scored a 36 yard touchdown giving Bonita the lead. The Saints offense tried to drive the ball down field but threw an interception which Bonita scored but it was ruled back because the defender stepped out of bonds. Bonita couldn’t score which lead them to half time.
After halftime, the Saints started off with the ball and got put in the position of almost being 3 and out but then Senior Captain Brandon Meredith connected with Jacob Gallegos who head topped the defender for a 36 yard touchdown putting the saints back In the game. Bonita responded back with scoring a passing touchdown now putting Bonita up with the lead score being 14-21. The Saints couldn’t score for the rest of the night and Bonita put up 1 more touchdown for the night make the score now 14-28 and that was going to be the final score for the rest of the night. Both teams fought had but Bonita had came out with the win now being the 8th year in a row that San Dimas has lost the Smudge pot. The record between the Saints Vs Bonita is now 28-24.
After the game Senior Captain Joseph Zamarono and Junior Captain Liam Loyola were both asked how they felt the game went and how they played as a team he responded with ” I feel Like We played good on both sides of the ball I just feel like I could have gave more to the team but during the second quarter I dislocated my finger and I wasn’t able to play to my full potential on offense because I only had one hand And I really couldn’t play defense but overall as a team we played good just got set back by penalty flags and just small mistakes. I feel that we learned from this and are gonna be more prepared for our next game against western”. Liam Loyola said “I felt our team played to our best abilities, obviously the outcome wasn’t what we wanted, but overall we did what we could to make it a great game and Honestly, as someone who doesn’t catch the ball a lot the pick six was such a surprise but I knew as soon as I got it I just had to run till I was in that end zone.”
After the game this put the Saints record to 3-1, this being their 1st loss of the season. They have a week to prepare for Western High School, Western just came off a big win against La Mirada and their record is also currently 3-1. They play on September 19th at the Saints stadium kick off is at 7:00pm.
