“Baby got Track!”
San Dimas Track & Field

As the gun rises, as the runners are ready, each person on this new team is ready for the work.
The Saints have been hard at work, practicing every day after school for 2 hours, perfecting their coordination, stamina, and technique. Head coaches, Jason Carson and Gary Jackson, have done an excellent job at creating thorough and effective training regimens, as well as teaching personal fitness, human anatomy, and physics within their coaching to ensure our athletes are provided with all the possible tools needed to succeed in the upcoming season.
The sprinting events are a true test of speed and strength. Comprised of the 100m, 200m, 400m and hurdle sprints, athletes run full speed to get the fastest time. A lot of high intensity training is put into preparing for such events. While it may look like all you need to do is be fast, it is much more than that
“I love going fast. This is only my first year doing sprints but I’m really liking it. I placed top 3 today as well as last weeks meet.” – Senior Andres Bernal
The distance events are highlights athletes’ stamina and endurance. 800m, 1 mile, and 2 miles are the distance events, and they are grueling. Pushing athletes limits, they must hinder their pain and maintain solid and consistent paces throughout the entirety of the race to come out on top.
“To be honest, I don’t like long distance. Nobody does. It’s tough keeping your stamina and pace without getting tired. But I’m good at it so I’ll keep doing it.” – Sophomore Raul Burris
And lastly, the field events are without a doubt the flashiest and shocking displays of coordination and flexibility. The long jump, triple jump, high jump, pole vault, and shot put and discus throw are events that require consistency and perfection to master the techniques that are required to prevail in such events.
“The feeling of flying through the air is so cool to me. I like setting goals for myself, and watching how much I’m improving.” – Junior Chazz Vela
Despite our teams hard working efforts, the Bearcats triumphed in the end, beating us in the long run, winning against both of our boys and girls teams. While it is an unfortunate start to the Saints’ season, they are not letting this get the best of them. They are 100% focused and practicing harder than ever to prove themselves to the Valley Vista League. “San Dimas Track aint’ looking back!”
