After the major box office success of It Ends with Us, another famous novel written by New York Times bestselling author Colleen Hoover got a movie adaption, Regretting You. The film stars Hollywood actors Mckenna Grace, Mason Thames, Dave Franco, and Allison Williams. The movie explored themes of love, family, and betrayal, and so far, ever since its release in theaters on Oct. 24, 2025, the movie has been a success among the public.
Directed by Josh Boone, Regretting You is about a mother named Morgan (Allison Williams) who ended up losing both her husband Chris (Scott Eastwood), and her sister Jenny (Willa Fitzgerald) in a car wreck, and she and her daughter Clara (Mckenna Grace) both have to navigate the aftermath of it together, but with all the secrets and lies that started to unfold, the mother and daughter’s relationship was put to the test. Also, Jonah (Dave Franco), Jenny’s ex-boyfriend from when she was 16, is back in the picture after 17 years, as the father of Jenny’s baby boy Elijah, and Clara starts hanging out with a boy named Miller (Mason Thames) behind her mother’s back, only further putting a strain between the mother and daughter’s relationship.
The movie featured songs from trending artists, such as “Writing on the Walls” by ROLE MODEL, and the most popular of all the songs from the film, “Everywhere, Everything” by Noah Kahen, featuring Gracie Abrams, which appeared at the end of the movie.
With the release of the trailer, social media posts, early screenings, and advertisement from the press, Regretting You was able to get the initial fanbase it needed to generate its popularity. The movie was based on a novel written by Colleen Hoover (who also served as an executive producer of the film), meaning that many people that read the book got excited knowing one of their favorite novels was coming to life on the big screen. That was another factor that contributed to help the film boost its popularity. Hence, when Regretting You was released in theaters, people were filling up all the seats, excited to see the highly anticipated film they been looking for, and when the movie came to an end, they left the theaters smiling about the amazing movie they loved and later recommended it to their friends to watch.
Junior Brooklyn Byrge went to the AMC movie theaters the day Regretting You came out on Oct. 24, and when the movie ended, she was impressed with it saying, “I thought it was really good. There were some discrepancies from the book because I read the book. I wish they would have had more of the book in the movie, but if I wouldn’t have read the book, I would have thought it was really good. However, I wish it was longer, it was kind of short.”
Similarly, Senior Sophia Ingrin also went to the cinema to watch Regretting You, and she also was happy about how terrific the film was, with her describing her favorite scene as, “at the end of the movie, when Miller is playing the clips of him and Clara wanting to be together, and Morgan and Jonah also being together. It was just super cute and wholesome of that being the ending.”
Nevertheless, Regretting You was the movie that a lot of people, especially many fellow Saints at San Dimas High, truly loved, enjoyed, and remembered the most. Because of that, it generated $78 million worldwide in the box office, which was a successful outcome for the movie, and proved that Regretting You was the perfect film for friends to enjoy together.
