A Ballplayers Journey

March 22, 2019

On Tuesday February 26th, the San Dimas Saints hosted the second rivalry baseball game against the Bonita Bearcats. Junior, D’Andre Smith, was in rotation for the amazing game to defeat the Bearcats 9-1. San Dimas has won both of the rivalry games played this preseason.

“It’s a team effort. We all play a big part in how the game goes down” Smith said. As a sophomore, Smith committed to the University of Southern California to continue his baseball career. Smith has been playing baseball since he was younger and hopes to be drafted into the MLB someday. Smith played shortstop that night. Even though baseball isn’t the key rivalry game that is played against Bonita, the ballplayers have a blast competing to add to the long list of wins against the Bearcats.

After the game, Smith commented, “We always want to put 110% effort into the games we play,” he said. By the fourth inning, the Saints were at a six-run lead over Bonita scoring seven runs in that single inning, adding another run in the fifth inning. Without a doubt, the Saints should be proud of their 9-1 victory.

Smith is described as a fantastic ballplayer and loyal friend. By going to USC, Smith hopes to improve in his game and get the best opportunity he can to make his dream a reality. “My entire life, I don’t think there is anything I work harder to accomplish”.

From working in the classroom to out on the field, D’Andre Smith shows an abundant amount of responsibility and character. The future’s looking good for this young athlete and his supporters can’t wait to see where it takes him.
