For the Love of the Game
Women Empowerment through basketball.
April 19, 2019
The beauty of basketball is that it teaches lifelong skills and keeps challenging players to be the best. Southern California Ambush (SoCal Ambush) is an all-girls travel basketball organization. The program has been around for about 2 years and strives to help young girls to show growth through fundamental skills training, positive coaching techniques, competitive play in tournaments in Los Angeles, Orange, and San Bernardino counties, and advanced in-game leadership.
Ambush has recently joined other leagues to compete in their “March Madness” which runs from March 30 – 31 in the San Dimas High School Gymnasium. Head coach Jay Beltran proudly tells of the girls’ hard work and dedication “Throughout the week, they practice and this is the event for them to show off their skills and to go on and win the tournament.”
The tournament began at 3 pm with 2 teams competing in Court 1. The SoCal Shooters 5 ended up taking the first win over the Blackwater Thunder with a score of 35 – 33. Along the same time in Court 2, teams Tornados 5/6th took on Ambush White with a loss with the final score being 25 – 35. From there the final two teams competed to win the championships for the 5th/6th-grade division. The SoCal Shooters 5 played a great game with the Ambush White and both teams fought for the finish. The tournament ended with the final score of 33 – 31 and the new reigning champions, the SoCal Shooters.
The Southern California Ambush organization is all about empowerment and holistic development of young women through sports and education and are proud of all of their accomplishments and all of the athletes, teams, and coaches that were involved in the tournament.
