New Beginnings At San Dimas High School
Ms. Estrada's First High School Class
October 1, 2019
Katryna Estrada is a Junior and Senior English teacher that is new to San Dimas High School. Being a new teacher can be daunting, especially in Estrada’s case – it’s a whole new ballpark. Coming from a private middle school where there was a much smaller population, Estrada commented: “I have to figure out what works for bigger classes when it comes to teaching.”
Another thing Estrada commented on regarding being a new teacher is how intimidating it can be. She stated, “Being a new teacher is very intimidating but everyone has been very supportive and made it a lot easier for me.”
Bonita Unified had always been a dream district for Estrada to work at. Estrada was a student-teacher at Ramona Middle School where she met many welcoming and nice people that made her want to work at this district. Estrada commented on the district when she said, “I just had a really good vibe there and it really made me want to work for Bonita Unified.” ”.
Being an English teacher, it can be very hard to have a social life outside of school because of all the grading and reading one has to do. On this topic, Estrada continued “Being an English teacher is especially difficult because you have to read each person’s essay thoroughly, I have to take my work home with me every day”. Although teaching is a giant commitment, Estrada said she loves her career, “I love to learn each student’s personality and see it grow throughout the year.”
Estrada is adjusting well with her first high school classes at San Dimas. The students are enjoying her teaching style and she is expecting a great year to come.
