October 21, 2019

Homecoming weekend began at SDHS with the “Let The Night take Flight” rally. The homecoming rally presented the Homecoming King and introduced the nominees for the queen. During the rally, details about the dance such as location and what activities to expect where also announced.

The rally started by introducing the five nominees for homecoming queen The nominees were Seniors Jyllian Drayer, Eve McFarland, Alexandria Kirsteen, Natalie Conboy, and Alexis Alcala. They sat next to each other in the gym while a humorous skit about them played to highlight each queens achievements. In the skit, McFarland stated, “Well I know I’m gonna be queen because I’m gonna get drafted into the WNBA”. Conboy responded with, “Well actually Eve, I’m gonna be queen because I can do more flips than you can.” Drayer chimed in with, “Literally neither of you know how to march”. To end the skit, Kristeen replied, “I know more about American girl dolls than you do genius”. This was an entertaining and fun way to promote the queens before the big reveal that would come during the game.

Finally, the rally ended with the announcement of the 2019 Homecoming King. The nominees, Seniors Benjamin Nance, Aaron Martinez, Cole Coffman, Kurosh Zamiri, and Isaiah Maldonado were walked up to the front of the gym. As they were walked up, a video was played of the princes answering ridiculous questions for the audience to get to know the guys who could possible be their next King. With all the princes standing at the front, a paper airplane slid down from the top of the gym to the ASB announcers. The gym buzzed with anticipation as they opened the envelope, and when they did they announced that the 2019 Homecoming King was Cole Coffman!
