Google Stadia

The Future of Gaming?

December 18, 2019

Streaming is becoming a more and more popular way to watch shows and movies. Gone are the days of CD’s, VHS and DVD players, just get your media from one of the hundreds of streaming services available, Netflix, Hulu, Chrome Cast, Roku or the newly launched Disney+. But what about streaming video games? Google Stadia looks to solve that problem.

Stadia is a new, cloud based streaming service intended for big, triple A game titles, boasting titles like Borderlands 3, Doom Eternal, The division 2 and Destiny 2. All you need to run Stadia and start streaming games is a Google Chrome Cast Ultra as well as a solid Wifi conection. No consoles, no downloads for your games, just install the software and start streaming.

The service, being new as well as the first of its kind, has some obvious issues that Google will need to fix in future updates like typical bugs and software issues. however, one of the massive issues that Google might not be able to fix, despite best efforts, is latency. The service itself being cloud-based is always going to have a bit of lag time in between the input, processing and the final outcome. The length and overall severity of lag will depend on your Wifi connection, but only time will tell if Google is able to improve this issue.
