Chiefs Take Home Super Bowl 54!

Coach Andy Reid Fuels Team to a Comeback

February 19, 2020

With the 2019-2020 NFL season ending, people have waited for the most important game in football, the Super Bowl. An exciting match-up at that has an explosive Chiefs offense led by Patrick Mahomes and a stellar 49ers defense that features Richard Sherman and Nick Bosa. Feb. 2nd was the day to be able to see a hard-fought game that matches expectations of a classic Super Bowl.

This game had started out slowly, with each team being forced to punt to the other team, a true defensive battle. Patrick Mahomes had shown a sign of light as he rushed in for a touchdown in the first quarter, giving the Chiefs a lead. On the next 49ers possession, Jimmy Garoppolo had his excellent start to the game to an end by an interception by Chiefs Bashaud Breeland, a great way to end the first quarter. The Chiefs only managed to put up a field goal, extending their lead by seven. The 49ers quickly strike back and score a touchdown from Kyle Juszczyk, which tied the game up ten-a-piece, and the first half ending.

As the second half begins, the 49ers begin to roll and carry their team to a Super Bowl win. Taking the lead with a field goal was only the start of the sensational 49ers team throughout the season. With an interception by Fred Warner and an immediate touchdown run by Raheem Mostert, 49ers extend their lead by ten, making the score 20 to 10.

As the final quarter of football starts to tick down, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid tries to get his team back on track, and the offense is driving to get back into this game. An inaccurate throw by Mahomes goes into the hands of 49ers Tarvarius Moore, and it seems as if the 49ers have secured the Lombardi Trophy with only eight minutes left in the game. But never count out Mahomes Magic.

A third and fifteen is keeping the Chiefs out of this ballgame, however Mahomes finds a way to keep the drive alive with a 46 yard pass to Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce to get three points. With a quick defensive stop, Mahomes uses his magic once again to lead his offense down the field and take the lead on a close touchdown to running back Damien Williams. The Chiefs have a 24-20 lead, and the 49ers offense is stagnant and cannot do anything except get sacked by Frank Clark. And with a little over a minute in the game, Williams takes the ball 36 yards to the endzone for the Chiefs, and are crowned Super Bowl Champions.

An up and down battle for Mahomes, but he walked away with the title of Super Bowl MVP. Head coach Andy Reid had won his first Super Bowl and is well deserved for his efforts. Sports writer Brandon Judd writes about how Mahomes talked about Reid being one of the best to ever be apart of the NFL.

“He’s one of the greatest coaches of all time. I don’t think he needed the Lombardi Trophy to prove that, but to do that, it just puts all doubt aside. He’s going to be listed as one of the all-time great coaches whenever he wants to be done, which I hope is not anytime soon.”

Even though the Chiefs dealt with injuries and not having safe leads throughout the playoffs, Reid had found a way to win it all. Super Bowl 54 went down as one of the most exciting Super Bowls, and this game goes to prove that Mahomes is truly one of the best quarterbacks of today, and Reid going down as one of the best coaches in the NFL.
