Humans Of SD – Matthew Geraci
“I just started mountain biking recently, my friends got me into the sport and I’ve been interested in getting out more and just being active so I got myself a Cannondale Jekyll mountain bike and some gear. I’ve been going with my friends to the local trail just trying to improve my endurance and get better at riding and taking jumps. It’s really nice just to be outside doing something with a group of friends rather than just laying around. A few weeks ago on my 5th ride with my homies, I ended up underestimating a huge jump that my friend had asked if I was going to do. I didn’t really hear what he had to say so I just sent it over the jump and realized that I need to clear it at least 5 feet or fall into a 6-foot hole. Since I didn’t realize that there was a jump I was just taking the trail at a chill pace not really fast enough to get over. Super startled by what’s incoming I decide to just send it I end up clearing the jump and flying over my handlebars. My bike ends up taking almost all of the damage with a massive dent in the rim. By the end of it, my wrist was in pain and I ended up getting it checked out and came back out with a hairline fracture.” – Senior Matthew Geraci
